One of the well-known chains of Irish departmental store, Brown Thomas & Company is located in Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Galway. It is owned by the Wittington Investments which is an upmarket chain similar to Canada’s Holt Renfrew chain and the one in Netherlands known as De Bijenkorf, all of which are been run and maintained by the Weston Family. The first store was opened in Dublin and was inaugurated by Hugh Brown at the 16 Grafton Street in the year 1848. In the next year another store got inaugurated by James Thomas at 15 Grafton and he bought the no 17 Grafton store and enhanced it. However, this was bought by the Harry Gordon Selfridge in the year 1919 and later was used as branch by the company Selfridge Provincial Stores until the year 1933. Later the company was purchased by John McGuire. It went public in the Irish Stock exchange in the year 1960.
Galen Weston was the man who bought shares of the company in 1971 and purchased the remaining shares in the year 1983 and thus it became the Brown Thomas & Company. The owner Brown Thomas now wanted to purchase more companies under their leadership. They attempted to purchase the Switzers group but had failed the first time but eventually in the year 1990 they could make a second bid to purchase it and did bring it under their leadership in the year 1991.
The original store was later on sold to M&S in the year 1994 and took over the store at 28/29 Grafton Street which became the headquarters. On 11 February 1995 the transaction was completed thus on 14 February 1995, the two stores were merged under the name Brown Thomas Galway.
The flagship location of the Brown Thomas Galway store is located in Dublin on Grafton Street. It is a 130,000 square feet store which has world famous boutiques such as Louis Vuitton, Celine, Hermes, Armani, Prada, Balenciaga, Charlotte Tilbury, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Saint Laurent, Ted Baker and Michael Kors. There are 4 levels to shop from, which includes Menswear on the ground floor along with the Beauty Hall and Accessories Hall. The level 1 has the shoe rooms and the designer rooms, level 2 includes the Womenswear and the lingerie section, Children rooms and the living department are on the 3 level.
The store has the best brands which suits every one’s taste. They sell haute couture clothing and accessories but also have the best readymade brands as well. After the men’s section got renovated, they have included the brands such as Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith, Gant, Prada, Hugo Boss, and Dolce & Gabbana. The top floor has the cafe and the restaurant. You should also be aware that the BT2 chain is also operated by Brown Thomas. It was launched in the year 1995 and is situated in the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and Dundrum Town Centre. These stores cater to best clothing and amazing range of beauty products. Even celebrities like Paris Hilton chose BT2 to launch their in-house products. Paris Hilton had launched her perfume Heiress at BT2.

The stores are open all days from Monday to Friday the timings are 10:00 to 19: 00 hours. Saturday timings are from 09:00 to 19:00 hours and on Sundays they are open from 11:00 to 18:00 hours.
