Fresh from an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug, University Hospital Galway (UHG) is now hopping… with fleas.
A number of staff working in the Outpatient Department of UHG have been bitten by fleas, following an outbreak at the hospital.
HSE West confirmed yesterday that the hospital had undertaken a series of actions to deal with the problem and had communicated with the staff who had been affected.
A spokesperson said there is currently “no sign” that the outbreak is affecting patients. They apologised to staff for the discomfort and worry caused.
“We are following appropriate measures to address this matter. Our aim is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our patients and staff at all times.
“The hospital is taking all appropriate measures and will continue to do so until the matter is fully addressed. We have also liaised with the HSE Environmental Health and Public Health Departments in relation to this matter,” said the spokesperson.
