ohn Muldoon bagged his fourth try in two games as Connacht took a huge step towards a crucial top six finish and European Cup qualification with a bonus-point victory in Rodney Parade.

Rodney Ah You followed Muldoon’s 17th minute try with one of his own five minutes later, while replacement Michael Swift also mauled over in the last minute to seal four Connacht wins in a row for the first time since 2002.

Pat Lam’s side obliterated the Welsh pack in the first 20 minutes and totally dominated at both the scrum and lineouts, forcing a full change of the front-row from the home side after just 28 minutes.

Things improved slightly after that for Dragons, but the damage was done as Connacht have now taken a superb 19 points from a possible 20 in their last four games.

The bonus-point win leaves Lam’s men in seventh place, four points behind Scarlets, who they will meet in Llanelli next weekend with a spot in the European Cup a realistic target.

Top six now the target for Connacht
