Nominations are being sought for Sail Training Ireland’s ‘Ireland at Sea’ Youth Exchange Programme 2012. The programme is appealing to organisations that work with young people to nominate one person from their organisation whom they feel deserves and would benefit from the unique opportunity to sail onboard a tall ship called ‘Pelican of London’.
The youth exchange programme runs for ten days from 25 August to 4 September and nominees should be aged 18-25 years. It is asked that those nominated are people that could truly benefit from a challenging, sea based experience.
This voyage would cost €1,000 without the help of the funding from the EU Commissions. With the funding, the nominated trainees will be expected to fundraise €300. The nominating organisation should be willing to support them in this fundraising.
It should also be noted that Tall Ship Sailing is a challenge based experience involving working every aspect of a traditional sailing ship while living in close quarters on board a ship at sea. No experience is necessary as the captain and permanent crew will coordinate the group but a willingness to work in a group and follow orders is essential.
Organisations interested in being a nominating organisation for this and future tall ship projects should fill out a nominating form, available from Michael Byrne on 086-0346038 or email@example.com.
The project is funded by the ‘Youth in Action’ programme under the EU Commission’s Youth Programme, which is administered in Ireland by Leargas.
