Galway Westside U18 five-a-side soccer team retained their Regional Games title after a well-deserved victory in Tuam last Sunday.

Youth Clubs and projects from Tuam, Ballinasloe, Oughterard, Westside, Kilkerrin, Kiltormer and Galway City all competed in Under 15 and Under 18 soccer, basketball and hip-hop freestyle dancing.

The Regional Games is coordinated by youth worker Padraig O'Sabhain, who believes it plays an important role in the sporting calendar. "This event is about providing competition for young people from youth clubs and youth projects who may not always be involved in sporting organisations at the higher levels."

Westside youth worker, Marty Clare, paid tribute to the team. "They have worked extremely hard and showed as a team that hard work and a positive attitude can really make a difference." Westside will now go on to represent Galway at the Area Games to be held in late April.
