Over 30 members of West Coast Wheelers CC spent the weekend at the K2 centre near Leenane for their annual pre-season training and team-building camp.

Under the supervision of club coach James O'Donnell, riders were put through their paces on cycles on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the beautiful, but windy, Connemara and South Mayo countryside. On-the-bike sessions included drills to improve speed, endurance and racing skills. Saturday afternoon saw seminars on goal-setting and attainment, nutrition for sport, and weight training for cyclists. All riders also received advice on stretching exercises from Pat O'Donnell, masseuse to the Irish cycling team.

Next weekend, WCW members will be competing in the Connacht Mountain Bike League, which on Sunday will be held at Moorehall, north of Ballinrobe, Co Mayo.

Sign-on from 11, racing from 12 noon. All ages and abilities welcome, helmets compulsory. For more information call Martin on 087 2226260. For information on road, leisure and mountain biking in Galway, visit www.westcoastwheelers.com.
