Could Galway United do the impossible and present us with European football in Terryland Park next year? After victory over Bray Wanderers in the FAI Ford Cup quarter-final replay, the possibility of hosting AC Milan or Ajax could be a distinct possibility if one more victory can be registered. As of yet the semi-final opponents are unknown, but by Monday evening next the live draw on MNS will reveal all, and should United qualify for the final and face an already European qualified team, they shall gain automatic position in the UEFA Cup. Bohemians are the only other side to qualify thus far, but St Pat's face Sporting Fingal this Friday and Derry City face Cork City to determine the other two last-four places. United, after a tough draw at home, travelled to Bray for the replay, and with goals from Jonathan Keane and Bray old-boy Jay O'Shea have gained their first semi-final berth since 2003. The semi-finals are scheduled to take place on the weekend of the 26th of October, but if United claim a home draw expect the fixture to take place on Friday 24th with a 7.45pm kick-off in Terryland Park. |
