Galway United 0 Galway United were edged out by the only goal of the game against St. Patrick's Athletic in Terryland on Friday. Galway United failed to convert several good scoring opportunities before Ryan Guy scored the winner for the Inchicore side on 67 minutes. United took to the pitch with five players sidelined through suspension and injury. The eleven that started put up a fine display but United will feel aggrieved to have lost the encounter. Tony Cousins opted to recall Philip Reilly at left back with Shane Tracy playing in front of him. Barry Moran returned to right of midfield and Alan Murphy started with Vinny Faherty upfront. Ciaran Foley was restored to the centre while Regi Nooitmeer passed a late fitness test to take his place in defence. Shane Treacy, Alan Murphy and Greg O'Halloran all had gilt-edged chances in the opening half but they were unable to find the net. St Pat's hit back with a couple of good efforts before a rasping shot from Ciaran Foley went the wrong side of the crossbar. On 64 minutes United had their best chance of the came. The impressive Faherty picked out Moran on the right. Moran crossed and Faherty glanced a header inches wide of the Ryan's upright. St. Pat's then took the lead on 67 minutes. A Fahey cross eluded the United defence and substitute Ryan Guy stole in on the back post to bundle the ball home. It got worse for United in the final moments Regi Nooitmeer was red-carded for fouling Glen Fitzpatrick but the subsequent penalty from Gary O'Neill hit the woodwork.
