Galway United face Bray Wanderers in the quarter-final of the League Cup next Tuesday night in Terryland Park, in what is probably the club's biggest game of the season so far. Despite some indifferent form in the League, United have played their best football in the cups and clinched the quarter-final berth with a penalty shoot-out victory over northwest rivals Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds. The Seagulls registered an impressive draw against St. Pat's last weekend and find themselves in sixth position in the Premier Division – 15 points ahead of United. However, Eddie Gormley's team will travel west in the knowledge that Galway may prove an altogether tougher proposition in the cup. Bray defeated United 3-2 in their league encounter earlier in the season, but it was a game that United could easily have won. A 90th minute strike from Ger Rowe brought Jeff Kenna's managerial debut to an abrupt end, but United hopes will be high for a better result this time out. Kick-off is 7.45pm, Tuesday July 1st. |
