Galway United can ensure their top flight status by getting a draw or a win when they travel to Waterford United on Friday evening.

United have been beaten in both their meetings with Waterford this season but Friday's win over Derry City, coupled with a superior goal difference, leaves Tony Cousins' men needing to just avoid defeat on Friday.

"The lads will be up for this contest, just like any other game. We know exactly what we have to do and we will be well prepared for this game. There is a huge motivation for us to get something from this game and hopefully we can go and do that," said Cousins.

United may have John Fitzgerald back after a knee injury forced him to sit out the win over Derry. John Russell is back after suspension but Daryl Robson may miss out with a foot injury that forced him out of the game last Friday after only four minutes of coming on as a sub.

Cousins said that Friday's win over Derry was a big result for the club and now they would go to Waterford with confidence.

"The lads did well and to get the three points was very important. They were fully focused on the game and they all put in a tremendous effort," Cousins said.
