Shamrock Rovers 4
Galway United 0

Galway United's five-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt at Tolka Park on Friday night when they fell to their worst defeat of the season.

United, having been unfortunate not to defeat runaway leaders Drogheda United the previous week, had high hopes of extending their unbeaten run.

But they paid the price for a lack-lustre display as Rovers were allowed dictate the flow of a drab encounter at a poorly attended Tolka Park.

Veteran striker Andy Myler did the damage with his second hat-trick in recent weeks as United just failed to get into the game.

Myler, who had earlier missed a gilt-edged chance, gave Rovers a 1-0 interval lead when he cracked home a half-volley just before the break when he punished some sloppy defending inside the box.

United created few chances in the opening half although John Lester came close to repeating his long-range goal-scoring feat from the previous week.

With United unable to lift their game, Rovers sealed the issue after the break when Padraig Amond headed home a right-wing cross unchallenged.

Rovers then rubbed sat in the wound in the final two minutes when Myler completed his hat-trick as the United defence crumbled.

United will now bid to bounce back when they entertain St Pat's at Terryland Park on Friday week.
