Moycullen 68
St Brendan's, Tralee 57

Moycullen made it two wins on the trot when they scored a superb 68-57 win over a Tralee side who they lost to three times last season.

Tralee led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and and pulled further ahead in the second quarter before the impresive Garnett Griffin hit three baskets in succession to haul Moycullen back into contention.

Moycullen were 33-27 adrift at half-time during a great contest at NUIG on Saturday but with James Loughnane, Mindaugus Kurcenkovas and Cian Nihill to the fore the sides were deadlocked at 45-45 as the tie entered the final quarter.

Moycullen's superior fitness and defence wore down a tiring Tralee outfit. Mindaugus Kurcenkovas was the chief benefactor at the offensive end, connecting on a number of lay-ups as Moycullen stretched their lead.

At the other end, the Moycullen defence was suffocating. Pressure on the ball from the three guards combined with a huge effort from the Cunninghams, Glenn Hynes and Garnett Griffin on Tralee's foreign trio saw Tralee struggle to run an offence as Moycullen eased to a 68-57 victory.

Unfortunately, after such a positive victory, due to the withdrawal of Limerick from the league and a first round bye in the Cup, Moycullen now face nearly three weeks of inactivity prior to the first local derby of the season vs Titans on October 27th in Renmore at 4pm.

Moycullen: Mindaugus Kurcenkovas(24), Cian Nihill(18), Garnett Griffin(12), James Loughnane(10), John Cunningham (2), Nollaig Cunningham (2), Glenn Hynes, Paul O'Brien, Dylan Cunningham, David Lee, Stephen Tummon, Eoin Maxwell.
