Galway Triathlon Club has announced the opening of entries for its annual race to be held in Cill Chiaráin, Connemara on Saturday, July 19.

The Triathlon begins with a 1500m swim from the pier of Cill Chiaráin,
looping around a series of buoys, before returning to the transition area, where competitors quickly change out of their wetsuits and jump onto their bikes.

The 40km cycle route will bring the cyclists in the direction of Maam Cross, before turning through Derry Rush and looping them along the local Bóthar na Scrathóg road. The last part of the route travels through Carna, before returning once again to Cill Chiaráin pier.

A 10km run will complete the race, bringing competitors high up above the starting point, on an out-and-back loop. The hill may be steep, but as many commented last year, the scenery is so fantastic that you hardly notice it!

As in previous years, Galway Triathlon Club is supporting the worthy cause of Carna & Island Lifeboat Fun, with sponsorship cards available online.

All levels are welcome, and if the challenge seems too daunting to tackle for one, people can enter as a relay of two or three.

Entries open this Friday on www.activeeurope.com. Further information can be found online at www.GalwayTriathlonClub.com
