Cyril Farrell, who has the distinction of managing Galway to All-Ireland titles at senior, U-21 and minor, will bid to add another notch to his coaching CV by guiding his native Tommy Larkins to Croke Park glory on Saturday night. The Woodford-Ballinakill side are just 60 minutes away from winning the All-Ireland intermediate hurling title when they take on Clonkill of Westmeath in the final at Croke Park on Saturday. Victory would be the crowning glory for a club celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and which has put enormous work into its underage structures in recent seasons. The club enjoyed almost instant success when Woodford and Ballinakill joined up in 1968 but their county senior title of 1971 remains the club's greatest achievement to date. They have twice won promotion in recent years and added the Connacht intermediate crown before Christmas after regaining their senior status in Galway. Farrell is coaching the side and they will be hoping the likes of semi-final hero Mickey Fahy, Eamon Hayes and Declan Garvey can point them in the direction of All-Ireland glory. |
