Titans recorded an 80-64 point victory over AOL Broadband Waterford in Renmore on Saturday. The home crowd turned out in large numbers anticipating a victory as Titans' performance has improved dramatically in recent weeks. Waterford played consistently throughout the game averaging 16 points per quarter. In the first quarter Titans were slow off the mark missing nine lay-ups giving Waterford the opportunity to stay in contention. By the time the Titans players hit the floor for the second quarter they were cruising in top gear knocking in 32 points in a 10-minute spell. Paulius Peldzius was unstoppable during this period amassing 14 points. Danny Finn and Conall MacMichael found form also hitting high percentages. Derek Mulveen played some of his finest minutes ever, knocking in five points, expertly providing assists to his team-mates and squaring off against a man marker considerably taller and stronger, eliminating his offensive threat. The third quarter was a balanced affair as Waterford found success from the three-point line but Titans Danny Finn, ever quietly efficient, was accumulating points to eventually top score on 25 points. The fourth quarter was owned by Danny Finn who stretched Titans lead. Titans now face the Sligo Allstars, next Saturday at 4pm in Renmore in the senior mens National Cup. Titans founder Joe Coughlan is a former Superleague coach with the Sligo Allstars while Titans National League manager Joe Bree played with Sligo from juvenile through to senior level. This will be the first competitive game between the sides and without doubt a capacity crowd will fill Renmore. Titans U20 men play Irish National Cup holders Templeogue this Wednesday in Dublin in the second round of this season's cup. Having beat Portlaoise in the opening round, Titans have had plenty of game practice in the senior National League. Much of the responsibility will fall on the shoulders of Danny Finn, Conall MacMichael, Darren Callanan and Liam Doheny to beat the Irish champions guided by coach, Mike Lynch. Meanwhile, Corrib Division 1 basketball team faced tough opposition this week against the strong Dublin side of Oblates Dynamos. Oblates overcame Corrib in an exciting and physical encounter, which puts them top as the only team so far left unbeaten in the Northern Conference. |
