Page 1 of 2 There should be a warm glow up around the Sportsground tomorrow as no less than three of the Connacht squad will be celebrating their birthday. Close on 100 candles should be burning if the Connacht players and management give the full treatment to the birthday boys. Michael Swift and John Fogarty both hit the 30 mark, while Andy Dunne will be 28. Indeed, they should invite back former hooker Henry Bourke as he will be celebrating his 27th birthday tomorrow. EVERY MOD con imaginable is being lined up by Galwegians RFC for their new multi-million euro complex out in Bushypark, but anyone going in there might have to pass through a bit of nostalgia. The new home for Galwegians will be open in the next couple of years but they will be keeping a nice connection with the past. Back in the mid-1980s they renamed their grounds at Glenina as Crowley Park in honour of CP Crowley, the former IRFU President who was the primary driving force behind the development of Galwegians. His son Peter has managed to get his hands on a set of gates for the new complex out on the Moycullen Road. And they are not any oul' gates. In fact, they are the gates that hundreds of thousands passed through to get into Lansdowne Road. He bought them a few months ago when the IRFU auctioned memorabilia from the oldest rugby ground in the world before the bulldozers moved in. It is now expected that the gates will be erected at the new Galwegians complex. |
