Friday's encounter between Galway United and Longford Town at Terryland Park will see clubs from all over the region unite to 'Show Racism the Red Card'. All clubs are encouraged to attend "Galway United's Clubs' Night" where a fantastic night's entertainment is planned. It will focus on Galway United's campaign to 'Show Racism the Red Card' which is supported by the Galway City Partnership, Galway City Council, Galway & District League and the Football Association of Ireland. In November 2006, the Galway & District League, who represents all 49 clubs in the County, gained 30% shareholding in Galway United FC, grounding the ownership of the club locally in Galway's football family. 'Galway United Clubs' Night' gives them the opportunity to bring their members to Terryland to experience live premier league action while also supporting their local eircom League of Ireland side. Organiser Daniel Walsh, Galway United's Promotions Officer has already seen great reaction to this initiative. "The feedback so far has been fantastic, we have also organised a conference in Terryland for club representatives before the game which will focus on the link up with the District League and the recently launched FAI Intercultural Plan." One child (U-10) from each club is set to wear the "Show Racism the Red Card" T-shirt and walk onto the pitch with the both sets of teams before the game to show a United front against Racism. On Friday Galway United will unveil an award for 'Positive Integration' in conjunction with the Galway & District League and the FAI. This award will be presented to a club whom actively engages in the integration of ethnic minorities groups and foreign nationals. All clubs juvenile players (Under the age of 16) will be admitted free of charge when accompanied by club representatives and organised through Galway United. Meanwhile, West Coast United U-12's will take on Lakeside Celtic U-12's in the half-time clash at Terryland Park on Friday evening. |
