IT WILL be another busy day at the Sportsground today as the Connacht Tribune Schools Junior Cup final as well as the Junior Development Cup final take place.

The Junior Development Cup final between Gallen Community School and Calasanctius College, Oranmore will kick off the day at 1.30pm.

It will be followed by the Junior Cup final, between Sligo Grammar School and Marist College at 3pm.

Marist College, who are defending their Junior Cup crown will be hoping for some consolation for their 10-7 loss to Colaiste Iognaid in last week's senior decider.

THERE WILL be plenty of action this Sunday on the domestic front when the first round of the Cawley Cup takes place.

Reigning champions Westport will face a serious test against Mayo rivals Ballina, while Monivea will meet Loughrea. A full round of ties has been arranged.

The quarter-finals are scheduled for the following Sunday, with the semi finals the Sunday after and the final a week later on April 6th.

THERE WERE hundreds of disappointed children yesterday when the annual Tag Rugby Extravaganza had to be postponed.

Over 1,000 schoolchildren were due to participate in the event at Corinthian Park but it fell victim to the appalling weather.

However, all it means is that the children will have a bit longer to work on their outfits for the parade of nations when the event goes ahead — hopefully in good weather — at Corinthians on Wednesday, April 9th.

THE WEATHER also took its toil on the AIB Cup semi-final between Galwegians and Shannon on Saturday. The concept of the competition is good but it is poorly structured and poorly backed. Scheduling the game for 3.15pm last Saturday — that is, a few minutes after Ireland and Wales finished playing their Six Nations match in Croke Park — was doing scant justice to the participants in a national semi-final.

After all, this game is, in one context, the biggest game Galwegians have ever played in but the competition needs to be allocated a schedule that does not see it coming up against international or provincial fixtures.

The rescheduled tie has been fixed for Saturday fortnight, March 29th, at Crowley Park.

THE WINNERS of that rescheduled clash will meet Blackrock College in the final and once again the decider will take place at Dubarry Park April 12th.

Like last year, it will be part of a double header with the AIB Junior Cup final also taking place that day at the superb Athlone venue.

Blackrock College booked their place in the final with a win over Dublin rivals Clontarf at the weekend.

There will be an all-Leinster clash in the AIB Junior Cup with Navan playing Tullamore.

The junior final will kick off at 1:30 p.m. and the senior final will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and will be shown live on RTE.
