Player of the year and leading Kerry footballer Paul Galvin has been confirmed as guest of honour at the 2009 Claregalway Hotel Senior Football Dream Team Awards which will take place at a lavish gala banquet in the Claregalway Hotel on this Friday night, November 13th. The novel idea, which has given huge recognition to club players is in its second year and getting Paul Galvin as the special guest is another major coup by the sponsors of the Galway championship. Three All Stars for Galway Although beaten in the All Ireland semi final, Galway players picked up three All Star Awards at the Camogie All Star Awards in the City West Hotel, Dublin on Saturday night. Therese Maher picked up her third All Star Award and her second successive accolade, while her Athenry colleague Regina Glynn pick up a second award. Enough Scores I remember several years ago sitting down with a successful manager that said that in order to win a team must score sixteen points. He added that the combination didn't matter, 0-16, 1-13, 2-10 or 5-1, but a team that scored sixteen points did enough to win the game. Of course to make sure you had to score more, but maintained that after sixteen points any team could hold their head proud. On Sunday last in Ballinasloe three teams scored eighteen points all on 1-15 and neither won, but all can hold their head proud. Two of them have another day, Meelick/Eyrecourt and Tynagh/Abbey/Duniry, but spare a thought for St Thomas' minor who scored the same and lost out. Sometimes even more is not enough. |
