Galway United, so long the victims of late goals all season, enjoyed a reversal of fortunes at Belfield on Friday night to snatch a last gasp equaliser.

The return from injury of Stephen O'Flynn proved to be a major difference and he was on hand in the dying seconds to secure an invaluable point for Tony Cousins' men.

United were more fired up than when going down to Waterford the previous week and this was evident from the outset as they took the game to the students.

Indeed, United had the ball twice in the home net inside five minutes -- but Derek O'Brien's effort was ruled offside.

However, there was no denying Derek Glynn who slotted home after being set up by O'Brien to give United a great start.

Shaun Fagan almost nabbed his first goal for United but produced a great save from a free on the edge of the box.

UCD came more into the game as the first-half progressed and they got back on level terms pn 31 minutes when Derek Doyle fired home.

Doyle turned provider for UCD's second just before the break when he set up Shane Fitgerald to give the student s a 2-1 interval lead.

John Fitzgerald came close to equalising with his first goal for United just short of the hour mark, while Daryl Robson was just off target with a free and John Lester headed just over.

But United's perseverance eventually paid off with O'Flynn nabbing a point deep into stoppage time to claim a draw.

Now United will head to league leaders Drogheda United next Monday before entertaining Sligo Rovers on Friday week in what will be a crucial Connacht derby.
