FINISH LINE... West Coast Wheelers riders Brian O'Donnell & Sadhbh Baxter after their race in Partry, Co. Mayo at the weekend.

The performance of the weekend came from Donncha O'Brien, competing in the Experts class in Castlewellan.

After fine finishes in two of the first three rounds of the series, O'Brien had one of the best rides of his season so far to finish in 6th place, just a few seconds down on the top rider in the class.

The points gained for this finish meant that O'Brien placed third in the league, a well-deserved result for someone who puts a lot into the sport of mountain biking in the Galway area, with his trail-building and coaching of beginners.

Mike Flanagan was racing in the sports class, finishing in 14th, ensuring a top ten finish in the league.

On the road, James Dunne, Brian O'Donnell and Sadhbh Baxter raced in the second round of the Mayo League over six laps of the 8km Srah circuit. The racing was handicapped, with Baxter off in the first group on the road. Most of this bunch managed to stay ahead of the chasing packs to the finish, with Baxter involved in a sprint to the line with three Castlebar CC riders, finishing in fourth place.

O'Donnell got the best of the bigger bunch sprint a few seconds back, finishing in tenth. Next weekend the action returns to Galway, as WCW host their annual road race on a tough 105km figure-of-eight loop in Connemara. The start will be in Maam at 1pm.
