![]() Inspired by her school swimming trips just last year, Sarah Jane Fox has conquered Connacht and is now aiming for glory at the All-Ireland Schools Swim Gala. Representing the Claddagh National School, Sarah Jane will travel to Dublin to compete in the individual medley and butterfly events in the National Aquatic Centre on 6 December. She qualified in both disciplines at the Connacht Schools Swim Gala held in Leisureland recently. Children from 3rd to 6th class in the Claddagh School attend weekly swimming lessons for several terms. This aquatic emphasis is clearly paying off: Sarah Jane credits her school swimming lessons with kick-starting her into competition. "I knew how to swim but I never really swam until I started going to lessons every week when I was in Mr. Frank Mannion's class. I dedicated my first gold medal to him," she explained. |
