Page 1 of 2 The third annual Umbro Galway Cup was concluded in style on Saturday as Ipswich Town, Tuam Celtic and locals Salthill Devon were amongst those celebrating at Drom.
Over 50 teams from as far afield as the USA, Canada and Britain
contested 108 matches with the cream of Irish under-age football. In the Under-17 tournament, New Hampshire's Atlantic Crossing emerged as early pace setters after they saw off a spirited Roscommon side 2-1 on the back of a dominant first half display. Credit to the Connacht side, they responded to the Americans' thoughtful and assured passing game with an energetic, direct style of attack, and deserved their second half goal. Atlantic Crossing's win was followed by, amongst others, those of Canada's Aurora, US outfit Langhorne and home side Salthill Devon. In the Under-15 Elite section, all eyes were again on an exceptionally talented Aberdeen, who comfortably dispatched of Charlton Athletic with a number of outstanding individual goals. The match that drew the highest level of local support in the Under-15 Club competition was undoubtedly Salthill Devon's clash with Shropshire's Ludlow Town. Goals from Conor Murray and Enda Curran decided it for the home side. Salthill's Under-16 Girls side rounded off a successful day for the locals after a convincing 4-1 victory over US side Mill Valley Thunder. |
