With Galway United in action in Dublin on Friday night, the Galway hurlers and footballers not playing until next month and Connacht's rugby season well and truly over, one could be excused for thinking this coming weekend would be a quiet one for sport in Galway.

LEGENDS ... Galway United President, Deputy Michael D Higgins, former star Clayton Blackmore, ex-Liverpool and Irish international Jason McAteer, and Declan Dooley, Director, Galway Independent (Media Sponsor), finalising preparations for Legends game between Manchester United and Liverpool which will take place at Terryland Park this Saturday.

This couldn't be further from the truth though, as Galway United's Super Saturday has finally arrived. The much anticipated Legends' match kicks off at 2.00 pm in Terryland Park and the sight of teams of former Manchester United and Liverpool favourites going head to head will surely have onlookers in nostalgic mood.

The match, being hosted by Galway United in conjunction with Growsport, is the first event of its kind in Irish football history and will feature genuine legends of the calibre of John Aldridge, Jan Molby, Alan Kennedy, Ronnie Whelan, Jason McAteer, Lee Sharpe, Micky Thomas, David May, Clayton Blackmore Denis Irwin and more.

After the match, it is onto the Radisson SAS Hotel for dinner and craic with the legends, who will also take in the build-up to Munster's Heineken Cup final against Toulouse from Cardiff.

As is fitting to Declan Kidney and his Munster charges, Kidney's final match at the helm of the province is on the biggest stage of all and a win on Saturday would cement their place at the top table of European rugby.

A new dawn is also under way in Irish soccer and Saturday will see Giovanni Trappatoni take on his first senior match as Republic of Ireland manager.

They wily Italian's young squad take on Serbia in Croke Park on Saturday evening and the party at the Radisson will continue with interest.

Tickets for the Legends match and the event in the Radisson, including food, cost €100 each are still available from the Galway United ticket office, on 091 767336 or from Zhivago Records on Shop Street.
