Bohemians 2
Galway United 1

After a recent run of improved form, there was disappointment for Galway United on Friday night in Dalymount Park, where a Liam Burns goal 12 minutes from time earned maximum points for Bohemians. Mark Leech's first goal for United had earlier cancelled out Neale Fenn's opener and the final scoreline flattered the hosts, after a spirited United display.

OFF THE MARK . . . Galway United striker Mark Leech, who got his first league goal against Bohemians at Dalymount Park on Friday night.

Jeff Kenna's men will be particularly disappointed with the way they conceded the late winner as Burns found himself unmarked from a Killian Brennan corner and the Sligo native was able to poke home the clincher to bring United's unbeaten run to an abrupt end.

United will certainly feel they deserved at least a share of the spoils having looked extremely organised through most of the contest, with Gary Deegan, Jay O'Shea and John Russell bossing the midfield area for extended periods.

O'Shea impressed early on with some wonderful "Ronaldo-like" touches and a fine piece of tight control allowed him beat his marker and slip Leech in on goal. A lead goal looked certain, but a last-gasp tackle from Ken Oman cleared the danger.

Just as it appeared that the teams would go in at half-time all square, Bohemians broke the deadlock. A Brennan set-piece was again the source as he swung in a beautifully-flighted free-kick from almost 40 metres. The alert Fenn beat a static defence to the punch and his header flew into the net via the upright to give the home side the half-time lead.

But United have been showing impressive determination of late and they bounced back with the equaliser in the 69th minute.

Having received the ball wide on the left, O'Brien jinked and teased the full-back before a great cross into the danger area allowed Leech to control the ball and blast home from close range for his first in the Galway colours.

The former Shamrock Rovers man has been a target for some unfair abuse in his time at Terryland Park, but his performances of late have been excellent and his first goal will give him huge confidence.

Unfortunately, the lead only lasted nine minutes as Burns popped up with the winner for Bohs. And United, despite their efforts, were unable to carve another opening, resulting in their eighth defeat of the season.
