Tommy Larkins made it three wins from three with a 2-12 to 1-14 win over Beagh as the Galway senior hurling championship moves to a crucial stage.

Joe Gantley found the net early for Beagh but two goals inside a minute from Paddy Morrissey and Niall Kelly and Paddy Moroney ensured the Woodford side maintained their 100% start to the season. Kiltormer got their first win when they edged out Turloughmore by 2-11 to 0-14 thanks to a brace of goals from Kevin McKeigue.

Ger Farragher scored 3-9 for Castlegar but still ended up on the losing side as Liam Mellows win a heated city derby clash by 4-15 to 3-15, with Aonghus Callanan returning 2-4 for Mellows.

Ronan Cullinane thought he had scored a last gasp equaliser but was whistled back for a square ball. Johnny O'Loughlin (2-3) and Johnny Maher (1-5) were the key figures as Loughrea defeated Mullagh by 3-12 to 0-13 as the 2006 champions continued their recovery.

Last year's runners-up Kinvara got off the mark with a 4-11 to 0-15 win over Padraig Pearses. Goals from Conor Kavanagh, David Hubam, Dara Smith and Shane Kavanagh set Kinvara on their way.

Athenry defeated Ardrahan by 2-18 to 2-10 with David Donoghue and Brian Higgins finding the net for the winners. Gerry Bond and Iarla Tannian responded for an Ardrahan side who slumped to their first loss of the campaign.

There was a surprising first loss as well for Craughwell as goals from Sean Coen, Eoin McDonagh and Shane Coen set Ballinderreen up for a first victory of the campaign.
