Cork 2-11, Galway 1-7 Chasing a fourth successive All Ireland title Cork totally outclassed Galway in the TG4 All Ireland Ladies Gaelic football quarter final in dreadful conditions at Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon on Saturday. Munster kingpins Cork were inspired by two-goal hero Valerie Mulcahy and a majestic midfield performance from Juliette Murphy, who captained the team to All-Ireland glory in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Galway had started well and Una Carroll (4) and Gillian Joyce had Galway 0-5 to 0-1 ahead after twenty minutes, but two minutes later Valerie Murphy crashed the ball to the back of the Galway net and Cork just simply took over. Juliette Murphy and Mary O'Connor added points to push the Rebelette's into a 1-6 to 0-5 half time advantage. Valerie Mulcahy tagged on two pointed frees before striking for her second goal ten minutes into the second half and Juliette Murphy added two more to push Cork ahead by 2-8 to 0-5 before Una Carroll had Galway's first point of the second half twenty minutes in. Murphy added another brace with Deirdre O'Reilly adding another before Galway scored again when substitute Kara Mullins struck for a consolation goal and after Cork goalkeeper Elaine Harte produced a series of fine saves to deny Galway further goals, Carroll had the final say with a point as Galway made their exit from the championship.
