The much-anticipated Galway SFC replay between Killererin and Moycullen was called off at half-time because of the torrential rain that fell during a severe thunder storm at Tuam Stadium on Saturday evening.

Moycullen, who captured the All-Ireland Intermediate football title earlier this year, raced onto a 0-3 to 0-2 lead after ten minutes with Gearoid Clancy and Brian Faherty on form, but as conditions worsened the experienced Killererin side coped better in the rain. With Padraic Joyce and cousin Nicholas – along with Shane Hughes – in fine form, the reigning champions had taken a 0-10 to 0-4 lead when the half-time whistle sounded.

Abandonment at that stage might seem harsh on Killererin as they looked like cantering to victory but safety of the players was given priority and in the end there was much relief among everyone when the announcement was made that the game was called off.

In the earlier game at Tuam Stadium, Connemara Gaeltacht side Micheal Breathnachs carved out a one-point victory over a disappointing Annaghdown, despite the best efforts of Frankie Burke, who scored five of Annaghdown's total.

Burke opened the scoring for Annaghdown but a succession of points from Liam O Faherta, Sean O Conghaile and Sean Denvir pushed the Gaeltacht side 0-4 to 0-1 ahead at the end of the opening quarter.

But Annaghdown responded to be level at 0-5 at the break with county star Niall Coleman kicking over a marvellous point from fifty yards.

Barrai O Conghaile and Burke swapped early second-half points but there were no further scores until the closing stages when Ronan O Faherta and Barrai O Conghaile had a brace of quick points for Micheal Breathnachs. Burke replied with a free but time ran out for Annaghdown who are now out of the championship.

A powerful display from DD Flaherty wasn't enough for Barna as Kilkerrin/Clonbern just edged home after extra-time at Tuam Stadium on Sunday evening. Barna trailed by 0-6 to 0-3 at the break and looked to be in trouble when points from Brian Geraghty, John Miskell and Jonathan Ryan pushed Kilkerrin/Clonbern into a 0-9 to 0-7 lead with time running out. However two late points from Flaherty extended the contest.

Ryan and Miskell pushed Kilkerrin/Clonbern two clear again in extra-time and although Flaherty pointed his and Barna's tenth point, it was not enough and John Miskell crashed the ball to the Barna net to seal a 1-12 to 0-10 victory.

Substitute Mark Ronaldson scored 1-1 in the second half to help NUIG defeat Menlough at Tuam Stadium on Sunday evening. Earlier in the day, Ronaldson had also come on for Mayo in the Connacht semi final in Castlebar.

Carlow native Paul Broderick had all the students' scores as NUIG opened a 1-4 to 0-1 half-time lead.

Brendan Costello had an early second-half point for Menlough, but after Ronaldson goaled the issue was beyond doubt and NUIG advanced with ease, winning by 2-8 to 0-5.
