Mark Kerins, recalled to the Galway squad by Ger Loughnane, turned on
the style to set up a Connacht Hurling League decider against the
Mattie Murphy-trained NUIG.
Kerins fired over nine points, five of them from play, from his full-forward spot as GMIT were dispatched in much the same fashion as Roscommon were the previous day at Fuerty by this Galway Development side. Galway were always in control at Ballinderreen and used wind advantage in the opening half to build up a 0-12 to 0-2 interval lead. GMIT rallied in the second-half with Conor Hynes picking off some good points from placed balls, but the outcome was never in doubt. Galway Development: C Callanan; C Murray (0-1), D Cloonan, F Moore; M Coughlan, J Kavanagh, N Corcoran; J Gantley (0-1), A Cullinane (0-1); D McEvoy, K Hynes, A Callanan (0-1); B Lucas, M Kerins (0-9, four frees), L Smith (0-2). Subs: K Brady for McEvoy; D Reilly (0-1) for Callanan; E Hyland for Corcoran; JP O'Connell for Hynes. GMIT: E Ward; G Brohan, S Kennedy, P Callanan; B Regan, C Horan, N Rogers (0-1); D Barry, C Hands; C Power, K Walsh, C Hynes (0-5, three frees, one 65, one sideline); M Flaherty (0-3, two frees), C Flannery, E Feeney. Subs: M Bevans for Hands; M Keane for Power. Referee: P Greene. |
