Galway Hurler Alan Kerins has joined with Tipperary legend John Leahy, Tyrone great Peter Canavan and former Ireland and Leinster star Eric Miller in the quest for sporting glory of another kind; - they have all signed up to take part in this year's Lifestyle Sports - adidas Dublin Marathon in October. ![]() Alan Kerins. Joining Kerins and his fellow sports stars are two new "Celebrity Chefs" - Wicklow man Eamonn Joyce, who took part in RTE's Operation Transformation and Dave McCarthy, from Ennis, who starred in How long will you live? Both were inspired to take on the marathon challenge by their life-changing experiences on the shows. The team will receive expert training and advice from leading Irish marathon runner Gary Crossan, and will also receive top nutritionist and core strength training advice. Kerins certainly should have no problems with the hills on the route come October given Galway Manager Ger Loughnane's famous love of hill-running as fitness training for his players. "I'll obviously be focused more on training for the championship for the next few months," said Kerins. "That's my priority - hopefully until the 7th September. After that, Gary is going to adapt my training to get me up to speed for the big day." Kerins is running to raise money for his own charity, Alan Kerins African Projects, and is hoping that he might inspire other Tribesmen and women to join him in his marathon quest and help raise badly needed funds for the charity. "It's a great boost for the charity to have brands like adidas and Lifestyle Sports support it," said Kerins, "and I'm hoping that we can raise much more money by October. I'd love if there were other Galway men and women out there who would run or walk Dublin for the charity." Anyone wishing to join Kerins in his marathon challenge should check out www.dublinamarthon.ie or www.alankerins.ie for further details. |
