Corofin's bid to claim back-to-back county titles took a severe blow last weekend as former county star Michael Comer suffered a reoccurrence of his cruciate knee injury over the weekend. Manager Gerry Keane underlined the disappointment of all involved with the club and wished Comer a speedy recovery.

"Unfortunately it is the same knee he injured last year," said Keane. "He had no huge swelling which is a bonus but the knee went from under him in the tackle. Fingers crossed he'll be okay but we'll just have to wait and see."

Meanwhile, Galway and Liam Mellows hurler David Collins will miss this weekend's quarter-final against Gort. Collins suffered a tear in his right hamstring when starring for Mellows against Ardrahan. Collins, the tenacious midfielder, who recently made his comeback from a two-year ankle-injury, admitted that he may have rushed back to action too soon.

"It is probably my body telling me that I hurried things a bit," said Collins. "I knew I hadn't the strength word done and it expected really. It was over-compensation on my part; it just popped when I sprinted, but hopefully I'll be back for the county semi-final if we can get past Gort," said Collins.
