The wealth of athletics talent in Galway at the moment was underlined by the number of Irish internationals and national medallists who were on display at the Galway Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Saturday in Nenagh.

Athletes such as Catriona Farrell, Claire Rockall, Conor Caulfield, Claire McNamara, William Finnegan and Paul McNamara have all performed at the highest levels in the past 12 months and all garnered further honours on Saturday.

Most impressive performances on the day came from Eddie Madden who took all honours available in the U10 Boys, Paul McGill who won three county titles in U14 60m, 60m hurdles and Shot Put, Sarah Helebert who won U15 Girls gold in the 60m hurdles, high jump and long jump , Thomas Keehan who won three gold medals in U15 60m, long jump and high jump, and William Finnegan who won three Senior Men's gold medals in the long jump, high jump and shot put. Notably, all of the above athletes hail from Craughwell AC.

Double gold medallists included Annie May Bourne of Ballinasloe AC and Clare Ryder of Craughwell AC in the U12 Girls category, Colm Hughes of Galway City Harriers in U12 Boys, Maria Cooney of Athenry AC in U13 Girls, Peter Treacy of Craughwell AC in U13 Boys, Deirdre Lally of Galway City Harries in U14 Girls, Katelyn Duane of Athenry AC and Catriona Farrell of Craughwell AC in U17 Girls, Gary Sweeney of Athenry AC in the U17 Boys, and Claire Rockall and Claire McNamara, both of Athenry AC, in the Senior Ladies category.

Next events on the calendar for Galways athletic clubs include West Region Senior and Masters Cross Country Championships on January 20th and the West Region Indoor Track and Field Championships on February 10th.
