GMIT start their FBD league campaign with an away trip to Cloone to face Mickey Moran's Leitrim this Sunday (2pm). Under the stewardship of Corofin's Martin Collins and his selectors Pat McHugh and Morgan McDonagh, hopes are high for a good run in this year's competition. GMIT's GAA officer Damian Curley thinks that the students are ready to impress in the provincial competition. "Our preparation was going great into December, but the bad weather of late has really upset our plans," said Curley. "We had a challenge match against Corofin cancelled last week due to a frozen pitch and that was a big match for us. "We managed to beat Leitrim at this stage last year in Tuam Stadium, but Mickey Moran and John Morrison had only just taken over. They'll be a lot better prepared this time round for sure." With an impressive range of players to call on including Galway's Paul Conroy, Stephen Kavanagh, Jonathon Ryan and Donegal's Stephen Griffin and Anthony Thompson, hopes are high for a good run before the Sigerson Cup starts in February. |
