GMIT footballers will bid to reach the semi-finals of the Sigerson Cup for the first time in history when they take on UL in Limerick this afternoon.

GMIT received a bye in the first round of Sigerson following a good league campaign which saw wins over Sligo IT and Athlone IT.

St James' Paul Conroy, the victorious Galway minor captain, and Mayo's Michael Conroy were the key figures as GMIT ousted Waterford IT by 0-18 to 2-8.

UL will present a much stronger challenge and the GMIT defence, in particular, will need to step up a couple of gears if they are to nail down that elusive semi-final spot.
