Waterford United 1
Galway United 3

An experimental Galway United side maintained the club's winning start to the pre-season with a convincing win over Waterford United in O'Shea Park, home of Blarney United on Saturday.

Derek Glynn put United in front after some hesitancy in the Waterford defence and he pounced again soon afterwards, slotting home confidently when clear on goal.

United enjoyed the lion's share of possession throughout the half, playing some attractive football on the Cork club's splendid Astroturf surface, and that dominance was rewarded when John Russell finished off a neat free kick to make it 3-0.

United fielded three trialists, with Kevin Walsh, Alan O'Hara and Danny Broderick all anxious to impress manager Tony Cousins.

And there were further changes after the break, as Cousins introduced six substitutes. And as United reorganised, Waterford were rewarded for a better second half showing when Kevin Waters fired a fine free kick past Galway keeper Alvin Rouse.

GALWAY UNITED; Alvin Rouse, Kevin Walsh, Alan O Hara, John Lester, Marc McCollock, Ciarán Foley, John Russell, Danny Broderick, Jonathan Keane, Stephen O'Flynn, Derek Glynn.
Replacements: John Fitzgerald (75mins), Derek O'Brien (45mins), Stephen Cunningham (75mins), Cathal Fahy (60mins), Gary Deegan (60mins), Mark Leech (60mins).
