Bray Wanderers 0, Galway United 1

A Derek Glynn strike in the 90th minute proved to be the difference between the sides in The Carlisle Grounds, as Galway United moved off the bottom of the table for the first time since March 28th.

Glynn's strike – his fourth in the league – was created by some excellent toil by Vinny Faherty down the right-hand side. Faherty beat three men, swung a ball into Glynn, who at the second attempt fired past Alan Gough in the Bray goal.

In truth all the action took place in the second half, apart from a couple of first-half clear-cut chances. Ollie Fenn had a couple of fine openings, both with his head at the back post, but on each occasion his finishing let him down.

Bray's best chance of the first half fell to Gavin Whelan after twelve minutes. Derek Pender and Ger Rowe combined nicely to set up the midfielder, but his right-footed shot ballooned over the crossbar.

The teams went in without having broken the deadlock, but chances flowed in the second period. Jeff Kenna, on his league debut for United, preformed admirably throughout, but came under increasing pressure as Paddy Kavanagh started to shine.

The Bray winger set-up Gareth Coughlan on 52 minutes, but his first-time snap-shot passed the post by inches. John Fitzgerald then received a yellow card after a professional foul on Kavanagh on the edge of the area.

Bray should have scored with less than 10 minutes and again it was Kavanagh who almost hit the net. Aidan O'Keefe crossed for Kavanagh, but his header hit the under-side of the crossbar.

Jay O'Shea on almost sealed it for United but his first time shot came back off the base of the post with only three minutes remaining. Just as O'Shea had thrown away the best chance of the game, Glynn came to United's rescue and secured the maximum return for the visitors.

Manager Kenna, who himself played well, was ecstatic with the win. "Psychologically it's massive for us to be off the bottom. It's the first time since I have been here and we are all delighted with the performance," said Kenna.
