In-form striker Derek Glynn struck for a late equaliser for Galway United against Sligo Rovers at the Sportsground on Saturday.

Sligo Rovers 1 Galway United 1

It was a timely reversal in fortunes for an United side who had dropped several points this season with the concession of late goals.

Now United will bid to build on this when they take on Bray Wanderers at Terryland Park on Friday night (7.45pm) in a real six-pointer.

United fell behind at the Showgrounds when Matt Judge gave Sligo the lead after 58 minutes.

But United showed commendable spirit and were rewarded in the 86th minute when Glynn pounced after Alan Murphy had been denied by Seamus Coleman.

At the other end Gary Rogers was in fine form dealing with a couple of good chances for Sligo in the opening half.

Former United player Rafael Cretaro almost set up Fahrudin Kuduzovic for an opening goal in the first quarter.

Galway United midfielder Derek O'Brien, who had a spell with Sligo Rovers, almost broke the deadlock before the break.

Sligo started the second-half strongly and were rewarded when Judge tapped home close to the hour mark.

But United never gave up, though, and were rewarded with Glynn's sixth league goal in five games after Barry Moran had come close.

United keeper Rogers had to be alert to deal with an effort from Kudozovic in the dying moments.

Now United will bid for back-to-back victories when Bray Wanderers come to Terryland Park on Friday evening, having emerged victorious from the Carlisle Grounds earlier in the season.
