Galway United have moved quickly to extend the contract of free-scoring sensation Derek Glynn.

The 24 year old, plucked six months ago from junior football in Mayo, have scored seven goals in four games since making his first start for Tony Cousins men.

And in a double boost, striker Vinny Faherty has signed for the Terryland Park side following his key performances in guiding Salthill Devon to national U-21 glory last season.

He will join new recuits Yeboah Mensah, Daryll Robson and Shaun Fagan as Tony Cousins strengthens his squad for the second half of the season.

Glynn, signed from Claremorris AFC earlier this year, has signed terms on a new contract which will keep him at Terryland Park until the end of the 2008 season.

Glynn, who announced his arrival with a brace of goals as Galway United shocked St Pat's 2-1 in Inchicore, says that full-time training has helped him enormously.

Galway United has agreed a contract extension with prolific striker Derek Glynn which will see him remain at Terryland Park to the end of the 2008 season.

"I'm delighted to be offered a contract extension so early into my career at United.

"The last two months have been amazing and hopefully this will be the start of something big for me at a professional level in football," he said.

Galway United boss Cousins says that Glynn's success is an example to all the budding talent in the West.

"Derek has proven himself as a prolific goal scorer at this level despite such a big jump from junior football.

"I'm looking forward to see what more he can bring to the side over this season and next," said Cousins.
