Galway pony riders recorded a hugely impressive clean sweep in Ennis on Sunday, taking the top three places in the 148 Grand Prix.

Paddy McDonnagh from Gort on Claremount Sam took first place, Ardrahan's Jessica Burke finished second on Ardgainian Boy and Michael Duffy from Turloughmore was third on Silver Shadow

The event was the main event in Munster last weekend with a large selection of some of the best horses and riders from the south of Ireland competing.

Duffy who is off to Turkey this week to jump for Ireland in the world children's Championships won the 148 ABC event and came second in the 138ABC.

Burke, who along with McDonnagh will represent Ireland in the European Ponies Nations cup, was second in the 1.30metre horse final to cap a fine weekend.

In Duffy's Equestrian centre Claregalway on Sunday Olive Clarke won the 1.30 metre class on Paradise G and added to here haul by taking first place in the 1.20 metre on Special Effects edging out Garbriel Slattery in both events.

After the desperately disappointing news of last weekend's cancellation of the Ballina Show organisers throughout Connaught will be hoping for much improved weather in the coming weeks. Plans are currently being made to reschedule the Ballina show for some time next month.

Claregalway: 1.30m - 1, Paradise G (Olive Clarke); 2, Welcome Captain (Gabriel Slattery); 3, Munroe GG (Alan Horan). 1.20m - 1, Special Effects (Olive Clarke); 2, Cruise Clover Boy (Gabriel Slattery); 3, Tampico Cru (Paul O'Neill).
