The Galway and District League ladies soccer team have performed extremely well in the Champions League in Bosnia-Herzrgovina.

Stephen Lally’s side drew 0-0 with the host nation’s SFK 2000 Sarajevo.

Then goals from Kara Mullins and Ruth Fahy helped them to a 2-0 WFC Universitet Vitebsk from Belarus to set up yesterday’s key clash with Swiss champions FC Zurich Fruean.

Meanwhile, all three Galway sides were in action in the eircom A league at the weekend.

Mervue United scored a 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers with Rynal Browne and Alex Lee finding the net for Johnny Glynn’s men.

Galway United seemed poised to go top of their pool when a Derek Glynn goal saw them ahead but UCD struck for an injury-time equaliser at Terryland Park.

Salthill Devon also drew with goals from Charlie Burke and Nicky Byrne securing a 2-2 draw against Shamrock Rovers at Drom.
