Kilkenny 2-5
Galway 0-9

A goal from Aine Fahy two minutes from the end left Galway intermediate camogie team shattered as Kilkenny advanced to the All Ireland final.

It was the second time in quick succession that a late Kilkenny comeback denied Galway of a place in the final. In the drawn game two weeks ago it was Galway that dominated most of the game but Kilkenny came late to snatch a draw.

On Saturday in Templemore it was almost déjà vu as Galway dominated most of the game.

With Martina Conroy in splendid form Galway raced into a 0-5 to 0-0 lead by the tenth minute.

Conroy scored four of the five points with Gemma Kelly adding another and for the remainder of the half Galway held the advantage leading by 0-7 to 0-2 at the break.

However the failure of the Tribesgirls to wrap up the game and put Kilkenny away with the strong breeze behind them was to prove costly.

Nevertheless playing into the breeze Galway held off the Kilkenny challenge and Conroy responded to Aine Fahy’s opening point of the half on seven minutes.

Entering the final quarter Claire Alyward had pulled back a point but struck another early in the final quarter.

Then with ten minutes left to play Kilkenny struck for the goal they badly yearned for. Michelle Brennan struck the ball in and Claire Aylward was on hand to finish to the net to leave the sides level
and the game firmly in Kilkenny’s favour.

Stephan Glennon’s side have displayed much character and they refused to throw in the towel and with three minutes left to play Gemma Kelly won a free and Martina Conroy pointed to put Galway back in front.

A Kilkenny team are never beaten and with ninety seconds left to play Kilkenny struck the winner when Aine Fahy crashed on to a loose ball and into the Galway net.
