Veronica Curtin, the only survivor from the team which won Galway's only senior camogie title in 1996, said she was thrilled they were back in the All-Ireland final. "It's unbelievable, we didn't think it would take so long again to get there, so this year hopefully we will make up for all the defeats and all the years that we didn't get there," said Curtin who was on two defeated final teams since that success twelve years ago. "We have beaten Cork before and we had beaten Wexford before this year and that will mean a lot in the final as it did today, but our focus is on our own game. "We knew it would go down to the wire against Wexford and we were lucky to get a stroke of luck at the end. Often you need a bit of luck in tight matches," she said. Aine Hillary, who worked tirelessy at midfield and is another one of the long serving players with Galway having played in many heartbreaking defeats over the years feared another hard-luck story when Wexford got their goal. Ann Broderick has played along side Curtin and Hillary for many years and was wing back when Galway won the title in 1996 is now part of the management team along side Liam Donoghue and Damien Coleman. "The girls have to be complimented. They weren't going well in the first half and they came out in the second half and gave everything and we are very proud of them," she said. |
