Galway footballers face All-Ireland champions Kerry in Pearse Stadium on Sunday (2.30), knowing a draw or a win will ensure a place in this year's National League decider. Indeed, thanks to an impressive goal-scoring record in the competition, a narrow defeat might be enough for Galway to progress on scoring difference, but Liam Sammon will no doubt ensure such permutations are far from his players' minds. Kerry are one of the other sides in contention for a final place and nothing short of a win will be enough for Pat O'Shea's men. The Kingdom have been gradually reintroducing some of the star men throughout the league and could be further boosted on Sunday by the returns of Colm Cooper and Declan O'Sullivan, who are back in training. Galway will have enjoyed an excellent campaign so far and will be buoyed by last week's last-gasp victory over Mayo. Last year's minor star, Paul Conroy, may push for a starting spot after impressing on his introduction in Castlebar. But Galway will be without Joe Bergin, after he hobbled off in the first half on Sunday, as they bid to take another big step towards a first league title since 1981. |
