Galway hurlers make the trip to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick for Sunday's top-of-the-table clash at least guaranteed a place in the knock-out stages of this season's competition.

Galway remain unbeaten in the competition after wins against Clare and Laois came either side of draws with Offaly and Tipperary.

And a win over Limerick could give Galway a semi-final spot ahead of Tipperary, the only other unbeaten side in the division.

Attacking profligacy undermined victory chances in Galway's drawn games but Ger Loughnane will hope the free-scoring demolition of Laois last weekend can settle his forwards.

Loughnane may be boosted on Sunday by the return of some of the victorious Portumna contingent with Damian Hayes and Joe Canning likely to come into the attack at some point during the league.

Richie Bennis' side have been beaten once, although they fielded an experimental side in the heavy reverse at the hands of Tipperary. Wins over Clare, Laois and Offaly were notable for the large scores posted by last year's All-Ireland finalists. And ace attacker Andrew O'Shaughnessy has already bagged seven goals in the competition.

Limerick will be without Niall Moran, who was shown a red card against Offaly.
