Kilkenny 1-13, Galway 1-9

It was a bad weekend for Galway as the Tribesgirls followed in the footsteps of the men when Galway fell to Kilkenny in the Gala All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship at Graiuge-Ballycallen grounds at Kimanagh on Sunday.

Galway, who lost the league final to Kilkenny, were unbeaten in the championship and almost assured of a place in the All Ireland semi final, but on they once again failed to match the Kilkenny challenge. The Tribesgirls led by 0-4 to 0-2 at the end of the opening quarter but with Sinead Millea and Bridget Mullahy on form, Kilkenny went in front.

However Jessica Gill finished a good move by Brenda Kerins and Therese Maher to score a Galway goal that pushed Galway 1-5 to 0-6 ahead at the break.

They stretched the lead to three points early in the second half but when Marie Dargan goaled after a Mullahy point, Kilkenny took control and raced into a 1-11 to 1-7 lead with ten minutes to play. Although Gill pointed twice, the Kilkenny side responded and ended up four point deserving winners. Galway now play Dublin in the next round of the Gala All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship and that game is schedule for Killimor next weekend.

Their final game is against Tipperary before the All Ireland semi finals are arranged.

The Galway intermediate side drew with Kilkenny, 3-8 apiece while Galway Under 16 camogie team also lost to Kilkenny in the All Ireland Semi final by one point, 1-15 to 3-8.
