Galway bid for an improved scoring return in Portlaoise E-mail

After two successive draws, Galway hurlers will look to sharpen up their shooting before Sunday's visit to O'Moore Park, Portlaoise in the fourth round of the National Hurling League.

After producing an encouraging forward display in the opening round clash with Clare, Galway have misfired against both Offaly and Tipperary, racking up large wide tallies and drawing games they might well have won.

Having impressed against Offaly, Ger Farragher's radar was misaligned against Tipp, while beside him Iarla Tannion was withdrawn for the second successive game, a disappointment to those touting him as a solution to the full-forward problem.

That said, while Ger Loughnane was disappointed not to take full points against a Tipp side that played with 14 players for more than half the contest, there were plenty of encouraging aspects to the Galway display.

Tony Óg Regan had a steady game at full-back while Fergal Moore also did well on his return. And despite the profligacy in attack, the home side did wipe out a five point deficit with less than a quarter of the game to go.

Galway would expect to have too much on Sunday for a battling Laois side, but Damien Fox's men will be boosted by Sunday's win over neighbours Offaly, having shipped heavy defeats to Clare and Limerick in their opening games.

As always, James Young will be the chief danger man in attack, while talented youngster Zane Keenan is gaining growing attention.
