The county’s leading amateur riders are taking centre stage this month.

ImageLast week six of Galway‘s top jumpers travelled to Cavan for the National Championship and this weekend the province’s best riders will take part in the Connacht Championships in Claregalway.

Among the results in Cavan was Mervue’s Mark Folan who finished a superb third in the Grand Prix and will be hoping to build on that good form in Rockmount this weekend.

Oliver Staunton from Loughrea was also in the places taking fourth in Saturday’s Derby. The other Galway riders to jump at the National Championships last weekend were Margaret Keane from Oughterard, David Glynn from Galway city and three Claregalway riders Therese Dixon, Eilish Healy and John Conroy

The Connacht Amateur Championships will take place next Saturday and Sunday at the Rockmount riding centre in Claregalway with the event once again helping to raise money for a local charity, this time CD Helping Hand.

CD Helping hand is an organisation set up to help families of children suffering from cancer.  It has a very strong and vibrant committee working in the West to raise money for this good cause and will join a growing list of charities to have benefited from these championships  over the past five years.
