A seminar and workshop organised by the Galway County Board will aim to give club officers the opportunity to learn skills that will help them become more effective leaders within their clubs. The seminar will take player in GMIT, Galway City on Tuesday evening 15th January, starting at 7.30pm. Galway County Board Registrar John Hynes believes that it is important to educate club officials, especially in a time when the changing nature of parish communities holds opportunities as well as challenges for the GAA. "At club level a fresh approach to thinking and planning is needed to meet the challenges we face. Clubs need to become more open to new volunteers and open to new ways of attracting and retaining members and players," said Hynes. Changing demographics and competition from other non-social attractions are providing a challenge for all sporting organisations today but Hynes believes the GAA is well-equipped to handle this. "The GAA is a strong and vibrant Association because it has dedicated voluntary officials committed to the promotion and development of our games and with a strong sense of pride in and loyalty to their local community." Hynes is keen that as many officials as possible attend the seminar. "There are 86 GAA Clubs and the Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and PRO of each of these clubs are requested to attend this very important seminar and workshop." |
