Final score: Donegal 0-14 Galway 0-13 Conditions: Dry and breezy Frees: Donegal 24 (12 in first half), Galway 18 (10). Yellow Cards: Donegal 3 (E McGee 11, R Kavanagh 53, K Lacey 62); Galway 6 (F Hanley 6, P Joyce 12, D Blake 30, 61, J Bergin 38, N Joyce 62). Red Cards: D Blake 62. Player of the match: Michael Murphy (Donegal) The towering 19-year-old landed all five of his frees but had Galway fu-back Finian Hanley in trouble throughout. Top scorer in the championship and is sure to have a bright future. Score of the match: McFadden landed a huge score off his left side from the left wing just before the break. He beat Damien Burke to a Eamon McGee and curled over a wonderful point. Save of the match: Adrian Faherty tipped over Colm McFadden’s drive in the 45th minute for a Donegal point. Could have been a maximum only for the Claregalway man’s agility. Turning Point: After 43 minutes Barry Monaghan cleared Matthew Clancy’s goal-bound effort off the line. A goal would have push Galway four points ahead. Instead Donegal hit back with a point of their own to level the match. Talking Point: Referee Rory Hickey came in for some attention after the match after he showed a total of nine yellow cards and was slow to notice that Diarmuid Blake had picked up his second. Could have shown red to Nicky Joyce for a lazy lunge at Barry Dunnion What’s up next: Donegal face Munster champions Cork in the All-Ireland quarter-final, while Galway players have the club championship to look forward to. |
