The Claregalway Hotel Galway SFC resumes this weekend with the four quarter finals down for decision. The clash of the weekend is undoubtedly the meeting of former kingpins of Galway football Corofin and All Ireland intermediate champions Moycullen which will be the second game at Pearse Stadium on Saturday at 6.00 p.m. Corofin beat Menlough and Tuam Stars en route to the quarter finals while Moycullen, after a long saga with Killererin, defeated Caltra in the qualifiers, before accounting for Mountbellew/Moylough in the first round proper. Moycullen have been coming good all season and displayed much promise. With players like Gareth Bradshaw, leading the fray and long time leader Paul Clancy, still a vital cog, the Connemara side will be hard to beat, but Corofin have been around for a long time and with a blend of youth and experience should advance. The first game at Pearse Stadium will see Caherlistrane take on An Cheathru Rua at 4.30 p.m. Caherlistrane are still learning at this grade and few would have treated Gaeltacht side An Cheathru Rua too seriously until their three epic clashes with Claregalway. In the final game An Cheathru Rua inspired by brothers, Ciaran de Paor and Cillin de Paor signalled their intent to be serious contenders this season. They defeated neighbours Micheal Breathnachs before accounting for Claregalway while Caherlistrane defeated Caltra and St Brendan's. At Tuam Stadium the other two games will be decided when NUIG take on last years beaten finalists Milltown at 4.30 p.m. With the students back at college they will be serious contenders but could find Milltown a difficult opposition. Depending on how Milltown perform on the day will decide this game but the College would be expected to advance. The second game at Tuam at 6.00 p.m. will see many peoples favourites Salthill/Knocknacarra take on Cortoon Shamrocks. Cortoon created a shock when they defeated Killererin in their last outing and will have little fear for Salthill. However the city side have a strong mixture of youth and experience and should advance. |
